Support Oz Harvest to fight food waste and feed communities in need
Hello everyone
I'd like to share that on the 28th October I'm taking part in the OzHarvest CookOff, a fundraiser to team up with local chefs to cook meals, fight food waste, and feed people in need.
In Australia, an astounding $7.6 million tonnes of food is wasted each year, while the cost of living and demand for food relief for struggling communities is at an all-time high.
The impact of wasted food and resources on our environment is also massive.
If you’re not yet familiar with OzHarvest’s wonderful work across Australia, enabled mainly through volunteer efforts, they rescue food that would otherwise go to waste (from supermarkets, markets, hospitality venues) and deliver it to communities in need.
Every $1 donated to OzHarvest means they can deliver 2 meals to those in need.
OzHarvest's work goes deeper still. Here in Adelaide, the OzHarvest Market takes place several times per week offering free, nutritious food to anyone to collect with dignity, as well as connection to social services where needed.
And, OzHarvest’s Nourish program also provides young people who have experienced barriers to education and employment with a free 18-week program to build hospitality skills and to graduate with cooking qualifications.
