Zach Green

Support Chef Zach Green to feed people in need.

Zach Green, known across Australia as The Storyteller Chef, is a travelling Indigenous chef with more than 20 years of experience working across kitchens, events and cultural food spaces. A proud Palawa and Gunditjmara man, Zach blends traditional Indigenous cooking techniques with modern approaches, creating immersive experiences that bring people together through food, fire and story.

Food has always been central in Zach’s life. It connects him to culture, family and the memory of his Nan, who taught him that ingredients carry history and that cooking is a way of sharing who we are. Over the past two decades he has worked in kitchens across the country, opening Elijahs Kitchen in Darwin in 2018, the city’s first Indigenous-owned restaurant, and Ilukas Kitchen in Port Hedland in 2023.

Through his signature experience, Reconciliation on a Plate, Zach shares the flavours, history and knowledge of Country using native ingredients, open-fire cooking and storytelling. Each gathering is shaped in collaboration with Traditional Owners and guided by the ingredients and stories of the region.

His work has taken him to festivals and events including the Karijini Experience (WA), Tunarama Festival (SA) and The Curated Plate (QLD), and he is Executive Chef for Darwin’s Fire and Forage Experience. Zach has appeared on ABC News Breakfast, Studio 10, Destination WA, Our State on a Plate and as a guest chef on The Bachelorette Australia, with his work featured in The Guardian, SBS, National Indigenous Times and ABC Radio.
